Miss registering for Diner en Blanc on time, feel like donning black this year instead of white and want to be charitable? Check out Diner en Noir in Philadelphia, the antithesis to the popular Diner en Blanc parties, scheduled to return for a second time this September.
The all-black event is scheduled to take place at an undisclosed location Sept. 10. The pop-up picnic’s location will be revealed at the last minute the day of the event.
“Last year was a dinner of rebellion, but that is last year,” said Nowaczyk, according to Philadelphia Business Journal. “We are distancing ourselves from that.”
The main goal of Diner en Noir is to feature a hidden gem in Philadelphia that is not often talked about or visited much and to support local charities. In 2014, the event donated proceeds to both Philabundance and Penn Treaty Park. This year’s charity partner is the Bethesda Project, providing emergency shelter, permanent supportive housing and low-income independent housing for homeless individuals in Philadelphia.
Tickets cost $50 for couples providing their own black table and chairs; $65 for pairs sitting at provided tables; and $32.50 for singles also sitting at the communal spaces.
Participants can bring their own food or purchase food from one of at least three catering options that will be offered. Diners over 21 can bring two bottles of wine or a six-pack of beer.
Participants are also asked to carry black non-disposable dinnerware to the site.
