Dune Buggying in Morocco’a Agafay Desert

Add a little adventure to your Marrakech trip with a half-day dune buggy excursion into the Agafay Desert. This daytrip is ideal for people who want a Moroccan desert experience but don’t have time to travel seven hours south to the Sahara. From Marrakech, the Agafay Desert is less than an hour away. You won’t find rolling sand dunes here, but the rocky hills of clay-colored gravel are a decent substitute when you can only allow time for a half-day adventure.

 

There are many different companies that offer adventure tours in the desert, but packages from Agafay Desert Luxury Camp come complete with camel rides, traditional music and dance, and a candlelit, four-course Moroccan dinner set in your own rustic, white tent.

 

After a brief safety tutorial of your two-seat buggy, an experienced guide will begin the hour-long venture on trails that buckle and bend over hills and into shallow valleys. It’s a freeing feeling to have your hands on the wheel and foot full-throttle on the pedal, pushing into the wind so hard you feel like you’re skimming the ground.

 

Stop to take in the expanse of land from the top of a dune, and then spend the rest of the time charging up and down hills and laughing into the wind with your hair whipping in every direction.
