There are a few things that can ruin a long-anticipated vacation, and one of those things is jet lag. After flying for hours and hours, it’s easy to want to collapse on your hotel bed and sleep away the day in an attempt to adjust to the local time. Instead of wasting an entire day of your precious holiday time in bed, enjoy the use of a new app that helps you ward off jet lag so you’ll have more time to devote to your new surroundings.
JetLag Genie (available for iOS, $2.99) teaches you how to combat potential jet lag before you even leave your home. Enter your flight date, time and destination, and the app calculates the rest. Alerts will notify you when it is time to go to bed, wake up, take naps or take a melatonin if medication is a part of your jet lag fight plan.
Each day you will receive a proposed itinerary of actions to follow including the amount of time to spend in the sunlight, when and for how long to squeeze in a nap and whether you should change the time on your watch, all of which are voluntary preparatory activities before your flight. The genie in your pocket is not always attuned to your natural sleep habits, but the suggestions are based on research about what works and does not work when it comes to adjusting to local time.
