Flat Rate from LaGuardia to NYC Offered from Via, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey

After landing at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, travelers have multiple options of methods of transit into the city, a journey measured by only about 8 to 10 miles but that can take more than an hour to complete and can cost as much as a meal at a New York City restaurant. But the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey collaborated with Via, a ridesharing app, to offer flat-rate rides from the Queens-based airport to destinations in Queens, Brooklyn or Manhattan.

For a flat rate of $15, travelers who arrive at Terminals C and D can request an LGA Connect carpool ride on Via’s app by entering their destination. (To reach the more-distant boroughs of the Bronx and Staten Island, riders will pay a flat rate of $20.) The app’s algorithm will match the user with others going to the same destination or at least in the same direction. After ordering a ride, riders will receive mobile notifications with the ride’s ETA and vehicle information, which should depart within 10 minutes of the rider’s request.

Drop-offs will take place on a corner near the rider’s final destination, but no more than two blocks from the precise address. Riders can pay using the app, just as they do with other rideshare services.

LGA Connect is available every day from 8 a.m. to 1 a.m., and, while currently undergoing pilot testing at Terminals C and D, Via is considering ways to expand the service to other terminals.
