Malga Ces, San Martino di Castrozza

This classy restaurant sits right on the slopes in one of the ski areas outside San Martino, so you can drop in for lunch mid-ski session or come back for dinner once the pistes are closed.

Widely regarded as one of the best restaurants in town, Malga Ces focuses on traditional local dishes. Think hearty mountain fare with rich sauces and lots of meat, served in a lovely dining room with white tablecloths throughout.

On the March evening we visited, the place was fairly quiet, but it was quite late. The staff were highly attentive and great at making recommendations in both Italian and English. We ordered a selection of dishes to share, from soups, salads and pasta for starters to lamb cutlets, pork steak and risotto for the main course. All of it was delicious. The wine list is extensive too, and there were some great Italian bottles to sample.

If you are looking to treat yourself to an amazing meal after a hard day skiing, Malga Ces is the place to go. For two courses and wine you can expect to spend about $40 per person, but it’s well worth that sort of money given the quality of the experience.
