Bird watching is a peaceful hobby many people enjoy. During migration periods, certain locations become flooded with multiple species of fowl stopping to take a break from flying and regroup with newcomers. Here are some spots around the United States where you can catch a glimpse at spectacular bird watching views.
Mount Desert Island, Maine
Right near the coastline, forest and mountains, this location has several habitats birds enjoy. As part of Acadia National Park, the protected area is a dream for eagles, gray jays and guillemots all year-round. In June, the national park holds the Acadia Bird Festival where fellow watchers come together to marvel at the variety of species that call the park home.
Everglades National Park, Florida
Heading down south, Florida is a warm and sunny location where many northern birds like to migrate. The Everglades are one of the country’s largest national parks with places to see wildlife like owls, woodpeckers, hummingbirds and herons at every point. Visitors reported seeing as many as 300 different species of bird in the marshy habitat.
Monterey Bay, California
On the West Coast, travelers to Monterey Bay can see tufted puffins, black-footed albatross and condors. This location is also known for other wildlife such as otters, seals and whales. September is when the Monterey Bay Birding Festival brings bird watchers from all around the country to enjoy the beautiful sights.
