Sat right outside the station in Mainz, this historic hotel is a great place to stay.
It’s just a 10-minute walk to the main shopping and entertainment district, but there are also lots of bars and restaurants around if you don’t want to venture too far from your room. There are all of the conveniences you would expect to find around a station, but a sense of calm prevailed.
The room was newly renovated, compact but well-designed, with a balcony looking over the station approach. It was the perfect location for a flying visit to Mainz involving an early morning train journey.
Staff was personable and friendly, with lots of advice on where to eat and drink. The common areas were elegant and refined, plus the room was well insulated for sound from both outside and other guestrooms. It also had a great shower, perfect for warming up after a day walking around town in the German winter.
This compact hotel is one of the best value stays in town, with double rooms at around $120. If you need to be near public transport it’s certainly the place to be, and I would be happy to stay again on a future trip to the city.
