A visitor need only step onto the tranquil grounds of The Broadmoor, a Colorado Springs, Colo., resort, to find a respite and a sense of serenity. I’d been in the Colorado city, about one hour from Denver, for two days before retreating to The Broadmoor. Visiting a friend in Colorado Springs, I was able to discover the treasures of the destination before escaping to the hotel.
It’s easy to lose oneself in all The Broadmoor offers guests. Aside from the natural beauty of which Colorado Springs has plenty, The Broadmoor has a spa, multiple restaurants (including the only 5-star, 5-diamond restaurant in Colorado), 54 holes of golf, six tennis courts, indoor and outdoor pools, shops, tours and activities and programs for guests. My guestroom accommodations were luxe and comfortable, but with all there is so see and do, not much time is spent in-room.
I dined at Summit. Local Pike’s Peak inspired the sleek interior décor of Summit and the menu features year-round favorites and seasonal specialties. I ended the same night at Play, the resort’s late-night destination with bowling and games. Additionally, I enjoyed a visit to the resort’s spa, lounged by the pool, walked around the lake for some early-morning invigoration and enjoyed a tennis lesson. My final dinner was at the 5-star, 5-diamond Penrose Room. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to amenities at The Broadmoor.
I was genuinely sad to pull away from The Broadmoor. I never did make it to the resort’s Golden Bee, an authentic 19th-century English pub with live ragtime piano music or to check out the Ranch at Emerald Valley. Both are must see — and the perfect reasons for a return visit to The Broadmoor as soon as possible.
