While the United States might have some fairly epic outdoor destinations, some of the best camping can actually be found overseas. Whether you’re dreaming of spending the night in the French Alps or alongside Tianman Mountain in China you’ll need to keep some things in mind before heading out.
Local Laws
What are the local laws pertaining to camping in the country you’re traveling in? Some places might strictly forbid it while others, like the United States, can require permits depending on where you want to pitch your tent.
Weather
No matter where you go you should always take the weather into account before going on a camping trip. Is the region prone to violent thunderstorms? Is it the middle of winter there while summer over here? It’s essential to plan ahead.
Safety
Is the country you’d like to travel in safe? Are there local gangs, mafias or just locals who don’t want you camping on their land? Always check ahead with local authorities to make sure going off into the woods is safe before camping on foreign land.
Flora and Fauna
What wild animals are in the area? Are you likely to get mauled by a tiger? You’ll also want to research which plants and berries are edible, if any, or the likelihood of the wildlife catching on fire.
