Puglia is the heel of the Italian boot and sits on the Adriatic and Ionian seas. As a result, there are loads of great beaches to explore. Here are some of the best.
Polignano a Mare
This charming resort town is home to a number of beaches; the main one is Lama Monachile. It used to be the mouth of a river, and now the sea snakes in between rocky terraces, great for diving.
Gallipoli
On the Ionian coast, the city boasts fluorescent blue waters and golden sand. La Purita is a particularly good stretch of beach, and the Isle of Sant’Andrea makes a good daytrip.
Torre dell’Orso
Close to the city of Lecce, this crescent-shaped beach is home to famous sea stacks known as the “Two Sisters.” You can also dive from the cliffs if you’re in need of an adrenaline rush.
Torre Guaceto
North of Brindisi you will find this long beach, which boasts the remains of a pirate tower from the Middle Ages. It sits in a nature reserve, too, so you can spot a huge variety of birds.
Gargano
This national park sits at the top of Puglia on a promontory dotted with beaches and inlets for around 90 miles. Check out Pugnochiuso and Portopiatto, the two main bays in the area.
