The Netherlands’ third-biggest city is a lovely place to spend a few days, but if you haven’t got time you can still see the highlights in 24 hours.
The best breakfast in town is had at Anne & Max, where you can even sit outside if the weather is nice. You will likely pay around $12 for a hearty breakfast, but it’s worth it. After breakfast, head to the Madurodam. Here you will find miniature models of important buildings from all over the Netherlands.
Wander around the center of town to get a feel for the place and then stop in at Simonis Aan de Haven for lunch. This fish restaurant gets its fish from one of the most well-known vendors in town, so it’s top quality without hurting your wallet ($15).
In the afternoon, visit Louwman Museum, which houses the world’s oldest collection of antique and classic cars. With 250 models on display, it’s good for a couple of hours browsing ($8). Once you’ve worked up a hunger, eat at Restaurant Zebedeus. This minimalist place serves simple, healthy and well-presented meals that are great value for the money. Mains start at around $15.
