Trends / Unique Itineraries & Tours

If this is your second time to Mumbai, you may be interested in skipping the main tourist sites and taking a deeper dive into the city’s culture and history.

Ask your hotel to call an English-speaking taxi and drive up and down the streets of Juhu, a neighborhood known for its concentration of Bollywood celebrities. Mumbai is where most of the country’s Bollywood films are produced, and many renowned actors are scattered throughout this neighborhood. You must also check out the legendary actor Amitabh Bachanmost’s sprawling estate and the mansion of Bollywood’s “dream girl” Hema Malini.

Bandra West is a trendy, up-and-coming neighborhood with a surprisingly Indie vibe. A recent influx of well-executed street art popped up around the city, so hop in a tuk tuk to cruise the streets on a self-tour.

If you want to get a local’s perspective on daily chores, stop by the open-air laundry neighborhood to see the largest traditional “laundromat” in India. You can meander through the streets and spy heaps of brightly colored saris just waiting to be hand-washed under the open sky.

Reserve a guide to lead you through Dhavari, India’s largest slum, for a few hours in the morning or midday. Better understanding how people live in extreme and difficult conditions is an eye-opening and emotionally heavy experience that may greatly expand your worldview.
