This atmospheric pub is nestled on the edge of the Peak District National Park, with spectacular views over the surrounding hills.
On a windy day, the thick stone walls and timber beams make The Peacock feel like a sanctuary, and one with delicious food on offer to boot. We visited on a Sunday afternoon, and the pub was alive with the sound of groups large and small.
The most popular meal on the Sunday menu is the traditional roast, and you can choose from pork, beef or turkey. If you’re indecisive, opt for the trio roast that includes a bit of each. For those that don’t fancy a roast dinner, the rest of the menu is extensive and includes favorites such as fish and chips, lasagna and pork belly.
The food was delicious and well presented, with the roast beef a particular highlight. As you’d expect in a pub, there are plenty of drinks on offer from the full-service bar.
Staff were attentive and friendly, contributing to a relaxed atmosphere. The Peacock is a great place to come to ride out a hangover by the roaring fire, or experience traditional British cuisine in a breathtaking setting.
The bill came to $17 per head with a drink.
