Plan a Rock n’ Roll-Inspired Getaway

For a vacation that includes just a touch (or more) of your favorite rock stars, pick one of these luxury hotels, resorts and destinations.

Head to Zanzibar, where Freddie Mercury grew up, living until his family fled Tanzania during the 1964 Zanzibar Revolution. Stop into Stone Town, the old part of Zanzibar City, for not only a bit of rock n’ roll history, but some world history as well. The city was a huge destination for the spice trade and slave trade in the 1800s. Now, Stone Town is important for its architecture, culture and artistic elements, the entire town designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. One of the country’s main visitor attractions, Stone Town’s economy is based largely on tourism.

While you might think you have to head to Tennessee to get a taste of the King’s royal lifestyle, those on the West Coast can experience a little Elvis Presley living without leaving California. In Napa Valley, Ink House opened as a new four-bedroom inn earlier this year. The inn’s old history in hospitality includes a stint as home to Elvis Presley while he filmed Wild in the Country in 1960. Now, you can stay in the Elvis Room, which offers views of vineyards and classily arranged Elvis memorabilia.

For warmer waters, go to a Bob Marley favorite — Strawberry Hill. The music superstar stayed at the property during recovery from an assassination attempt. Strawberry Hill is also owned by Chris Blackwell, founder of Island Records. Many other artists visited the property over its lifetime and now you can enjoy the Colonial-style architecture and easy island vibe for yourself.

While New York is playground for many a rock star, one hotel that frequently hosts stellar acts is The Lowell. Located on the Upper East Side, it hosts famous faces like Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and Madonna on the regular. If you dream of a little stargazing during your stay, this may just be your lucky spot.
