Approximately 30 minutes south of Dubrovnik sits a small seaside town with fewer tourists but just as much charm. Conveniently situated between the Pearl of the Adriatic and Dubrovnik Airport, Cavtat serves as a worthwhile stop either on your way into Dubrovnik or on your way out. Book a hotel room in town and spend a day wandering with no destination in mind.
The bayside promenade is an attraction in and of itself. A winding path stretches from the opening road into town to a small port on the opposite end, with sidewalk restaurants popping up along the way. For lunch or dinner, settle into Café Zino for the freshest seafood catches, or hop next door to Ankora bistro and wine bar and people-watch over a glass of Croatian vintage.
Strolling through Old Town Cavtat costs no money and is ripe with curious pursuits, from browsing the shops for Croatian goods to snapping photos of the Church of St. Nicholas. Athletic travelers can roam outside the old town via a 2.5-hour walking trail along the coast to nearby Radavcici.
About one dollar gets you a cone full of gelato at the House of Ice Cream along the main promenade. After dessert, wander a bit further down Trumbicev put to a remote restaurant called Spinaker and end the night with one final glass of Croatian wine and a stunning Adriatic sunset.
