Santorini is a beautiful coastal destination with so many sights to see. The port of Thira is the heart of Santorini, and is bustling with life and color. Some of the best things to do in Thira wont cost you much, or anything at all. Here are some things you must check out while visiting this sparkling island.
The Donkey Path
The Donkey Path, or the old Karovolades stairs, is a 588-step path leading from the Port of Thira to the top of the island. Many of the tourists coming into port from cruise ships take this path either by foot or on the back of a donkey, famous to the island. The path will wind you up the side of the cliff, offering spectacular views.
The Cable Car
For those not willing to take the Donkey Path to the main attractions of the island, there is the cable car. The enclosed car takes you up the side of the cliff, offering the same spectacular views at a fraction of the time. A one-way ticket is just €6.
Window Shopping
Plenty of interesting and colorful boutiques and storefronts line the cobblestone side streets of Thira. You could spend hours wandering in and out of these shops, gazing at the interesting fashion and art on display.
