Arkansas is not exactly a dream destination for many travelers. However, outdoor lovers will find it has an extensive array of wonderful trails to hike. Check out these excellent options to get back in touch with nature.
Seven Hollows Trail, Petit Jean State Park
The Seven Hollow Trails lead hikes down the side of Petit Jean Mountain. Some of the natural wonders along the route include the giant Natural Stone Arch and the famous Turtle Rocks, a unique formation shaped like turtle shells. You’ll also pass The Grotta, a spot beloved for its waterfall and ample opportunity for picnics.
Whitaker Point Trail, Upper Buffalo Wilderness
The Whitaker Point Trail is a mostly downhill trek that passes a beautiful waterfall, before leading you to the Hawksbill Crag. The crag provides an epic scenic overlook of the surrounding wilderness and is one of the most popular destinations in Arkansas. Be sure to come in the fall for the best views.
Lost Valley Trail, Buffalo National River
Large sections of the Lost Valley Trail follow alongside the Buffalo River. With more than 100 miles of trails in the region, Lost Valley stands out from the crowd by offering the incredible, 53-foot Eden Falls and the Natural Bridge, a rocky formation that takes you across the river itself.
Big Bluff, Buffalo Wilderness Area
The Big Bluff at the end of Goat Trail is a favorite among locals in Arkansas for its splendid views overlooking the Buffalo Wilderness Area. The hike can be pretty steep at times, but the birds-eye view of the river at the edge of the bluff makes it well worth the trip.
