Tips / Destination

Celebrated as a rich, historical and cultural center, Rome attracts scores of visitors every year. However, the capital of Italy isn’t known for its cheap price tag and budget accommodations. Luxury accommodations and upscale boutique hotels are the norm, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find your own secret budget stays in and around the city. Here’s where to start your search.

Santuario Santa Maria delle Grazie, Sant’Oreste
The small sanctuary of Santuario Santa Maria delle Grazie, Sant’Oreste lies roughly 22 miles north of Rome in a wooded nature reserve. Get away from the bustle of Rome and learn more about this historic monastery and rise at dawn to see the 360-degree view of the sea from Monte Soratte. Rooms are simple, quiet and comfortable with reasonable prices and options for breakfast and dinner.

Mecenate Rooms
Overlooking the Colosseum, the Mecenate Rooms lies in proximity to Rome’s most famous shopping streets, the Roman Forum and other attractions. Small and basic rooms look contemporary and upscale in classic, superior and deluxe rooms. After a day exploring Rome, unwind in an air-conditioned room with satellite TV with LCD screen, WiFi and an en-suite bathroom.

Relais Palazzo Taverna
Situated next to Palazzo Taverna, the Relais Palazzo Taverna offers reasonably priced accommodations in a 15th-century building. Guests enjoy modest rooms with a private bathroom featuring air conditioning, minibar, WiFi and satellite TV. The hotel is also located along Via dei Coronari, making it a prime location to browse the antique shops and boutique retailers.

Le Stanze di Orazio
Stay in Rome’s historic center at Le Stanze di Orazio’s upscale boutique hotel with a reasonable price tag. Recently renovated, the hotel blends contemporary design with modern amenities like WiFi, an en-suite bathroom, slippers and hypoallergenic sheets. Before you step out to go sightseeing in Rome, stop by the small breakfast room and dine on fresh fruit, croissants and coffee.

Casa di Santa Brigida
For a peaceful stay on Piazza Farnese, Casa di Santa Brigida provides a peaceful reprieve from Rome’s bustling streets. This charming convent offers spacious and comfortable rooms with modern facilities. You can also ask the nuns or reception staff for papal audience tickets.

But it’s not just about the reasonable prices at these off-the-radar attractions. Booking a room in a Roman convent, monastery or guest house opens up a whole new experience to an Italian vacation.

Leave Troublesome Rideshare Worries Behind

We can see it now and remember when it happened to us: Watching as the black car icon loops around and around, seemingly endlessly, and our wait time on the rideshare app continually changes. Long wait times and confused drivers are just a few bothersome issues that can nag at rideshare users. Need a solution? Ditch rideshares altogether in favor of renting a car on your next trip.
