Nestled smack dab in the middle of New Orleans’ famous Jackson Square, Stanley Restaurant is an airy, bright café that offers some truly delicious fare and all-day breakfast. Stanley serves up a blend of classic-but-elevated American diner food and all the Cajun-Creole favorites gobbled up by residents and visitors to The Big Easy.
The diner décor will put you at ease, and being seated next to the eatery’s tall windows means you don’t have to pause from your Jackson Square people watching. I ordered the Breaux Bridge Benedict: poached eggs on French bread with boudin, smoked ham, American cheese and a Creole hollandaise sauce. The dish was delicious, as was the side order of Creole breakfast potatoes, served home-fry style with the skin on and a generous amount of pepper and onion.
My friend ordered the Bananas Foster French Toast: a pile of battered French bread, sliced bananas, walnuts and foster sauce, topped off with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The dish was sinfully rich and sweet, and encapsulates everything good about New Orleans’ decadent breakfasts. Don’t skip out on a cup of chicory coffee to be enjoyed with your breakfast dish — or dishes — at Stanley.
