While the Strip is one of the best ways to experience Vegas, it is also expensive when compared to staying a little bit further away. For first-time visitors, consider paying the premium, but if you’re a Vegas veteran or looking for something unique and different to experience in Sin City, you can still have a great time off-Strip without missing anything.
Head downtown
The actual city of Las Vegas is a bit away from the Strip, which is sometimes a surprise for visiting tourists. If you want a taste of what Old Las Vegas was like, there are several sites to see among the city’s renovated downtown area. Fremont Street was the original Strip, home to several historic casinos like Eldorado Club, Fremont Hotel and the Golden Nugget, which is still open. Other sites to see are the Fremont Street Experience, the Neon Graveyard and the Mob Museum.
Experience the outdoors
Since gambling is legal in the state of Nevada, you don’t have to be in Vegas to hit the card tables. There are plenty of casinos outside the city, surrounded by the beautiful Nevada landscape. Lake Mead is a great alternative that has hiking, kayaking, fishing and more on one of the world’s largest manmade lakes. Red Rock Canyon is filled with scenic landscapes and wildlife, as well as casinos to escape from the heat. The Red Rock Conservation Area also has a 13-mile scenic loop for some great Instagram moments, and there are even driving experiences where people can rent a sports car for a quick drive.
