Although many travelers only buy a bottle of water or a snack from airport food vendors, many flight hubs — such as San Francisco International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport — offer something more sophisticated to visitors.
These airports, and many others, boast upscale wine bars to help ease the wait for flight departures.
In Newark Liberty’s Terminal C, Le Grand Comptoir serves guests seven days a week. The wine bar and restaurant showcases more than 100 premium wines from wine-growing regions all over the world. Wine enthusiasts can indulge their palates with 50 vintages available by the glass.
On the menu, each wine is placed on a scale depending on its flavor intensity, ranging from light to full-bodied.
Le Grand Comptoir also has locations in John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, and George Bush International Airport in Houston.
If you find yourself craving a glass of wine while at San Francisco International Airport, head over to Vino Volo Wine Bar. Vino Volo combines an upscale wine bar experience with a wine boutique, and also boasts a food menu.
The menu selection is organized into whites, reds and dessert wines. Food can be prepared in two different sized portions, depending on the appetite of each traveler.
For curious drinkers, the bar offers themed flights featuring two or three glasses each. The variety of wines let customers get a taste of the world even before hopping on their flight.
Vino Volo can also be found in Austin, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Seattle and other airports across the country. For a full list, visit www.vinovolo.com/locations.
