When you’re running low on funds but aren’t ready to head home just yet, it’s time to replenish the coffers. Try our ways to get paid while still traveling.
Work at a hostel or bar
If you’ve found a town you love, you might be able to snag some hours at a local hostel or restaurant. This works best if you’ve built up a rapport with management beforehand but during high seasons in many places, area businesses are desperate for extra help. While the pay might be minimal or limited to food and accommodation in exchange for several hours’ work daily, those are usually the most costly expenses anyway.
Take your skills on the road
If you have a special skill or interest, use it to your advantage. Are you a yogi? Teach a few classes a week for extra cash. Live to scuba dive? You might be able to work as an instructor — or at least an extra hand — at a dive shop.
Teach English
Teaching a few students informally is a great way to earn some side cash. Just make sure to establish an hourly rate and cancellation policy before beginning.
Work from home
Use your talents to work on freelance projects. While this will require a bit of pre-planning while you put together work samples or a portfolio, it can pay well and allow you to set your own hours.
