Any fan of true crime worth their salt has at least a passing awareness of Erik Larson’s The Devil in the White City. In his book, Larson chronicles the 1893 World’s Fair held in Chicago and the murderous run of Henry Howard Holmes, or H.H. Holmes.
Before and during the World’s Fair, it is estimated Holmes slayed 20–200 people. Fans of true crime can go on a tour around Holmes’ old stomping grounds, thanks to The Devil in the White City tour.
Put on by Weird Chicago, the tour takes interested patrons through Chicago to where Holmes sought and dispatched his victims. The tour also takes guests through the remnants of the World’s Colombia Expedition, where Holmes tricked most of his victims.
Weird Chicago has a number of other tours for true crime aficionados, including the True Crime and Mystery Tour and the Blood, Guns and Valentines Gangster Tour.
Tourists can reserve their place in the tours either online or by phone. It is recommended for guests to book their place early due to the popularity of the Devil and the White City Tour.
