Grand Hyatt Bogotá

Grand Hyatt hotels have been a big name in high-end business accommodations since its inception in New York. Named for the Grand Central Station and Hyatt Park, the brand was designed around luxury touches in the vein of 1940s glamour when women wore gloves and men had a hat for every time of day. The brand-new Grand Hyatt Bogotá definitely keeps that theme in mind.

Now with 48 locations in gateways cities all over the world, the Grand Hyatt Bogotá is only the fifth location in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Upon walking in the main lobby, the first thing I noticed was the grand chandelier. On our tour of the hotel, the general manager mentioned the impressive piece actually took three weeks to hang — three times longer than the hotel had been open at the point of our arrival.

The attention to detail and subtle opulence displayed throughout the Grand Hyatt was evident through incredible pieces of art — almost snatched up by the Metropolitan Museum of Art — or the hand-woven wallpaper pieces climbing from floor to ceiling by renowned artisans. Even large ice cubes in single-malt drinks in the bar were branded just before serving with the Grand Hyatt logo.

For the three days of my visit, I noticed the lobby, café and restaurants were always buzzing with activity by noon. It seems business colleagues and locals find time to head to the Grand Hyatt to meet with clients and chat over lunch.

Other than my incredible bathroom, including a rainfall showerhead, separate tub and his-and-her sink, my favorite takeaway from the guestroom was the view. Guests enjoy a view of the city with floor-to-ceiling windows and high-tech touches throughout. Close the curtains for blackout darkness or flip the “all off” switch by the bed to turn off any lights you forgot. Can’t find your “do not disturb” sign? No problem, just flip the light switch on the way out, alerting staff you don’t need your room cleaned.
