Tips / Other

Widespread unrest in various parts of the world is disturbing enough, but when an airport protest is scheduled to take place at your local airport or at one you will be visiting in the near future, your getaway can quickly turn stressful. Here’s how to handle travel amid an airport protest.

Get in touch with your airline.

While airports may be flooding social media feeds with information, the actual operation of your flight will be handled by your airline. Consider following your airline on social media or contact them directly for the final word on your flight.

Review your reimbursement options.

If you purchased travel insurance, review your rights and reimbursement options in the case of a “force majeure,” or an event out of the control of the airline, such as a protest. If this language is used in your insurance policy, it is not likely the airline will cover cancellations or changes to your flight. Once again, contact your airline directly to work out a solution, such as moving to another flight or another mode of transportation.

Consider other airports.

If you’re in or near a big city, chances are there is more than one airport nearby. Check to see if there are flights operating out of a secondary airport, or at least a connection en route to your destination.
