Now returning for the fifth time, Governors Ball has become one of New York City’s best music festivals. The inaugural festival in 2011 brought together a diverse group of artist for the highest-selling event ever held on Governors Island. Since then, it has expanded to three days, packing a variety of activities like lawn games and food trucks from New York’s best restaurants.
This year the festival is bringing more than 60 artists to four stages from June 5–7. Headliners include Drake and My Morning Jacket on Friday, Deadmau5 and Ryan Adams on Saturday and The Black Keys and Lana del Rey on Sunday. Governors Ball does a good job balancing up-and-coming artists with celebrated veterans like Björk and Noel Gallagher of Oasis, who will be performing as his solo act, High Flying Birds.
The festival is also pulling out all the stops for activities this year, with ladder ball, corn hole, bocce ball and a life-sized Connect Four game. Other points of interest include art installations, photo/gif booths, the Samsung Galaxy Experience and Sennheiser’s silent disco. Paypal will provide tents and lockers and there will be water bottle stations sponsored by Camelbak. If you’re looking to relax with a drink between sets, Miller, Bacardi and Tito’s are setting up lounges for the festival as well as Governors Ball After Dark.
Governors Ball is also a foodie’s paradise, with vendors curated by The Infatuation. This year’s restaurant line-up includes Ramen Burger, American Cut Steakhouse, Kimchi Taco and more, as well as vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.
