I recently had the pleasure of dining at Prime Meats, located in the Carroll Gardens neighborhood of Brooklyn. Being a chilly, fall day, the coziness and tavern-like atmosphere of the restaurant was exactly what we were looking for. Although, it was a Saturday night and we did not have a reservation, we arrived early enough for them to squeeze us in for an early dinner.
The restaurant is deceivingly large. As they directed us to our tables towards the back, I realized there was an entire separate, larger dining room. The restaurant also has a small, but charming bar at the front of the restaurant, which was already packed when we entered.
While, the menu isn’t large, the selection still made it difficult to decide what item to order. I ended up going with a traditional burger and couldn’t have been more pleased with my choice. It was hands down one of the most delicious burgers I have ever eaten!
I asked for a medium-well temperature and our server mentioned it would take bit of time to cook it this temperature because of the thickness of the burger. I was hungry, so I was hoping it wouldn’t be too long of a wait, and fortunately, it was no longer than an average wait time for food. Served on a fresh sesame bun and with a more-than-average side of hand-cut, crispy and hot French fries, I was officially in heaven. To accompany our meals, we enjoyed cocktails off of the Prohibition-era-inspired drink list.
After learning that Prime Meats is a farm-to-table restaurant, I was not surprised. From the burger and French fries to the cocktail ingredients, everything was extremely fresh and delicious. I am interested to try owners Frank Falcinelli and Frank Castronovo’s other restaurants, Frankies 457 Spuntino (Brooklyn) and Frankies 17 Spuntino (Manhattan).
I would say the prices are a bit more expensive than your normal inn- or tavern-style restaurant (burger was $18), but it was well worth it! Definitely recommend and will return!
