Tree Tents

Did you ever want to live in a treehouse when you were little? Unless you suffered from an acute fear of heights, you probably had at least a passing fantasy. If you would like to experience what it is like to live in a tree house, at least for a little while, check out Tentsile.

This company is born of the imagination of Alex Shirley-Smith who, as a small boy in the early 1980s, was heavily influenced by the destruction of the Amazon rainforest and the Ewok Village in the movie Return of the Jedi. It took a little while before his vision of making usable space in the trees was made reality. Since 2014, Tentsile partnered with REI to sell these hammock/tent hybrids.

The tents are water-resistant and protected from UV exposure. They range in price $200–950 and can be made for a single occupant or up to three people at a time. If suspended spaces are something you are really into, also purchase giant hammocks. Accessories include tent walls and mattresses, as well as insect and webbing ladders.
