Health & Wellness

As yoga continues to build a popular following among people looking to exercise or meditate — or both — yoga-themed vacations are a similarly growing trend around the world. Whether your accommodations offer full-fledged yoga retreats or simply include yoga classes in a long list of amenities, the presence of this practice is increasingly conspicuous.

The practice of yoga involves a sort of meditative exercise intended to challenge your muscles and free your mind. By engaging in poses that require balance and flexibility, the mind is thoroughly occupied in the task at hand, and outside worries and stress fade. It’s a logical match for a vacation, when you’re already probably aiming to get your mind off the stresses of daily life at home.

Several reputable sources have culled lists of the best yoga retreats around the world:

  • Yoga Journal has a collection of articles based around yoga travel
  • Well + Good has selected nine best yoga vacations
  • Coastal Living focuses on retreats in seaside and waterfront locations, in their article 23 Best Coastal Yoga Retreats
  • And the website Go Yoga Travel collects myriad destinations and yoga and spa resort listings
